Overview

Elevate your skills and expertise in Benzodiazepine Tapering with our webinar series, based on Joint Clinical Practice Guideline on Benzodiazepine Tapering. Participants will learn how to determine when the risks of continued Benzodiazepine prescribing outweigh the benefits for a given patient, and how to safely taper the medication when indicated in various settings. This webinar will provide healthcare professionals with a high-level overview of The Joint Clinical Practice Guideline on Benzodiazepine Tapering, including major key takeaways. It will explore the risks and benefits of tapering and how to utilize risk-benefit assessments to guide and adjust tapers based on individualized goals and responses to treatment. Additionally, participants will develop strategies for increasing patient engagement. By the end of the webinar, healthcare providers will have a clear understanding of the guidelines and will feel more confident in their ability to conduct safe and effective benzodiazepine tapers.

The target audience for this Introductory level webinar includes physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, researchers, and students.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion, learners will be able to:

1. Apply key clinical takeaways and strategies for safely tapering benzodiazepines as outlined in the Joint Clinical Practice Guideline on Benzodiazepine Tapering. 
2. Conduct risk-benefit assessments to inform tapering strategies and implement close monitoring and adjustments based on a patient’s response during tapering. 
3. Employ a collaborative, patient-centered approach to actively engage patients in care decisions.
4. Differentiate between benzodiazepine physical dependence and benzodiazepine use disorder when developing individualized care plans.

Click the button View/Print Certificate to save or print your certificate. You can view/print your certificate at any time by visiting the ASAM e-Learning Center, clicking Dashboard, and clicking Transcript/Achievements.
5. For Pharmacists ONLY: Complete the task entitled "Enter Pharmacist CPE Monitor Information (Pharmacists Only)". Pharmacists must claim credit and provide their eProfile ID and Birthdate via the Pharmacist CPE Monitor Information survey within 30 days of completing the activity. ASAM will not report CPE Credits claimed 30+ days after activity completion to ACPE. ASAM will not report CPE Credits without accurate and complete information.
